Central Virginia Community College is excited about its new baseball program. We believe for this program to succeed we must focus on education as well as baseball.
In talking to several four-year institutions, a major problem with transferring players was their GPA. It has stopped talented players in their tracks. Just like batting practice or taking infield fungo, we must prepare you for the day a recruiter or scout walks up to you, shakes your hand, and says you hustle and have talent. At some point you are going to be asked the question, "What's your GPA?" A dedicated and prepared student can answer without hesitation, "I can meet your requirements". Those students will be told, "Let's talk".
We want you to hear that and, with everything available to you at CVCC, you have all the tools you will need to be successful. To help keep you on track, our counselors will receive progress reports from your teachers. This way we can start intervention early in case you have any difficulty in a class. We have tutors ready to help you and access to an online tutoring center available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As you can see, we are dedicated to help you in the classroom with all of the college's resources if you have the drive and want it.
We will have you covered on the field as well. This new program is an opportunity for you to continue to sharpen your skills to advance and try to reach your potential. We joined NJCAA to play the top teams to showcase your talents and be nationally ranked. CVCC will play in District X, which is one of their most competitive districts. District X has teams in parts of West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. We are serious, we will be filming the games (using a game camera in a stationary location) for you to learn and improve. We will also use the film to send to coaches that have asked about you or to a coach you want us to contact. We have major league training tools that will help improve both hitting and pitching skills. For pitchers we will help fine-tune your fundamentals which will improve your consistency as well as the health of your arm. We will practice defense until you dream about it. You will hit, hit and then hit some more. The baseball field will be your second home.
If you have the determination and drive and take advantage of the tools provided, you will have every opportunity to succeed, both in the classroom and on the field. We have set up this program for your benefit, not for the college or coach.
