Basic Rider
Basic Rider Training Course (BRC) is for those who want to learn to ride
a motorcycle properly and safely. This is a 3 day course. Weekend sessions begin
Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. and continue through Saturday and Sunday
from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.(Approximately) During the summer weekday sessions
are offered and begin on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and continue
through Wednesday and Thursday from 7:30 am to 1:00 p.m. The courses include
classroom instruction and on-motorcycle instruction under controlled range
conditions. Riders will learn basic skills of motorcycle operation, effective
braking and obstacle avoidance, as well as safe riding strategies. Riders will
be taught skills normally learned after several years of trial and error riding.
Completion of the BRC course prepares the rider for state licensing with an
exemption in the skills and knowledge test at the DMV and may qualify for
discounts with some motor vehicle insurance companies. The BRC program provides
motorcycles (none larger than 500cc) helmets and textbooks for each rider. Area
motorcycle dealers who support the program loan the motorcycles and equipment.
Extended Basic Rider Course is an option designed for students who have
completed the Basic course (successful or not) and would like more
individualized instruction. The class ratio of student to instructor is 3:1.
The course cost is $100 per person. This course is scheduled on a demand basis
and would be held on two weekday evenings. Please contact our office if you are

Starting “Summer Semester”, which begins May 20-22,
2008, Basic Motorcycle Classes will become a 1 Credit College Course. You will
be required to apply for admission to the college in order to take the class.
There will be an increase in the tuition for the Basic Motorcycle classes. The
cost will be $82.15 for In-State tuition. Out-of-state tuition is $ 257.30.
