Leave for Administrative Faculty
Annual Leave (Vacation Time)
All administrative faculty receive paid annual leave that can be taken for
any purpose. A supervisor may deny a request for leave at a specific
time based on business necessity. Annual leave accrues at the end of
each pay period (the 9th or 24th of each month). An employee must
work an entire pay period or be on paid leave to be eligible to accrue
annual leave. Refer to chart below for accrual rates and leave
carry-over maximums.
Twelve-month faculty who were employed in the VCCS prior to January 1,
2007 accrue annual leave at the following rate based on years of service:

Presidents and Vice Presidents are given 160 hours (20 days) of annual
leave on January 10. When they have 15 years of service, the
amount of annual leave given will be as indicated above. For
executive-level employees who start employment at any time other than
January, the amount of annual leave given will be pro-rated on a per
pay period basis.
All annual leave in excess of the maximum allowed shall be carried over
beyond January 1 of each year. However, the excess leave must be used
by July 9th of the same calendar year. The remaining excess hours will
be converted to sick leave on an hour-for-hour basis as of July 10,
except for participants in the Virginia Sickness and Disability Program
(VSDP).
Presidents, administrative/professional faculty, and twelve-month teaching
faculty hired after January 1, 2007, receive leave in accordance to the

Traditional Sick Leave
Administrative faculty who do not participate in VSDP accrue sick
leave at the rate of 5 hours per pay period. Sick leave
accrues at the end of each pay period (9th and 24th of each month).
An employee must work or be on paid leave for an entire pay
period to accrue sick leave. Sick leave may be used for
personal illness or disability or for absences due to medical
appointments, or illness of an immediate family member.
Immediate family includes mother, father, children, spouse, sister,
brother, step-parents, step-children or any other blood relative
living within the household. Employees have access to
48 hours of accrued sick leave to use for absences for the illness
or death of an immediate family member. Thirty-three percent of an
employee's available sick leave can be used to cover an FMLA
absence for an eligible family member.
Virginia Sickness and Disability Program (VSDP)
(One year waiting period from date of hire for VSDP effective 2009)
Administrative faculty who participate in the Virginia Retirement
System are eligible to enroll in VSDP. Under the program
employees are provided with sick leave and family and personal leave
each calendar year.
