Leave for Classified Staff

Annual Leave (Vacation Time)

All full-time classified staff receive paid annual leave that can be taken for any purpose. A supervisor may deny a request for leave at a specific time based on business necessity. Annual leave accrues at the end of each pay period (the 9th or 24th of each month). An employee must work an entire pay period or be on paid leave to be eligible to accrue annual leave. Traditional Sick Leave

Classified employees who do not participate in VSDP accrue sick leave at the rate of 5 hours per pay period.  Sick leave accrues at the end of each pay period (9th and 24th of each month).  An employee must work or be on paid leave for an entire pay period to accrue sick leave.  Sick leave may be used for personal illness or disability or for absences due to medical appointments, or illness of an immediate family member.  Immediate family includes mother, father, children, spouse, sister, brother, step-parents, step-children or any other blood relative living within the household.   Employees have access to 48 hours of accrued sick leave to use for absences for the illness or death of an immediate family member. Thirty-three percent of an employee's available sick leave can be used to cover an FMLA absence for an eligible family member.
