Dennis Phillips Receives 2005 Motorcycle Safety Foundation Award

Irvine, CA /Media Release/ -- The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) has named Lynchburg resident, Dennis L. Phillips, the 2005 recipient of the Outstanding RiderCoach Trainer Award.  Phillips has been a RiderCoach Trainer since 1996 and has provided motorcycle and safety training instruction to tens of thousands of Virginia motorcycle enthusiasts.

With operations based on the campus of Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) in Lynchburg, Phillips serves the Foundation as a Coordinator for Motorcycle Ride Training Program in Central and Southwestern Virginia.  In this capacity he has created and developed training facilities in eight locations representing an area approximately one-third the size of the Commonwealth.  His responsibilities include instructor/examiner training as an MSF Certified Chief Instructor/RiderCoach Trainer and coordinating schedules between instructors and the facilities.

Phillips also must maintain a curriculum that is in compliance with state laws and safety standards.  Thus, he is responsible for the layout and maintenance of all eight motorcycle test ranges as well as the procurement and maintenance of program motorcycles.

The Foundation forwarded its congratulations to Phillips through CVCC.  MSF President, Tim Buche, stated, “The MSF is appreciative of the hard work and commitment and commends the dedication it took to earn this achievement.”

Stan Shoun, CVCC Vice President for Workforce Development and Continuing Education, seconded Buche’s comment.  “This is Dennis’ life.  The quality of the instructional program, seamless operations management, and cooperation at all levels of the program are to his credit.”  Shoun adds, “Dennis’ passion with motorcycle safety is infectious lending to a superior quality of education.”

The MSF is a national organization based out of Irvine, California.  The Foundation conducts research and provides a curriculum in its effort to promote lifelong-learning for motorcyclists and continuous professional development for certified RiderCoaches and other trainers.  MSF represents more than 1500 RiderCourse sites throughout the United States.
