CVCC Hosts Entrepreneurship Forum
Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/ -- CVCC hosted an entrepreneurship forum to discuss various programs intended to educate manufacturing business owners on developing industrial marketing skills. The meeting was held September 21 at Lynchburg Colleges new Centennial Hall. Attendees included representatives from Region 2000 Economic Development Council, Region 2000 Government Council, the Greater Lynchburg Chamber of Commerce, Campbell Countys Economic Development Office, and the CTC Public Benefit Corporation. CVCC representatives, Stan Shoun and Bob Bailey, participated along with the events sponsor, Ben Mayhew of LCs Mason Center.
Gregg Lichtenstein, president of New Jersey based, Collaborative Strategies, delivered the presentation focusing on innovative approaches for building high performance entrepreneurship-related service provider networks. The program was based on The Entrepreneurial League System developed by Lichtenstein and Dr. Thomas S. Lyons, director of the Center for Research and Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development at the University of Louisville. Their approach to developing small businesses is centered on the premise that successful entrepreneurships rely on a set of skills that are often found lacking at different levels. Surveys indicate that education directed toward these skills is a better approach to optimizing regional development.
Following Lichtensteins presentation, meeting participants engaged in discussion over approaches for maintaining a service provider network targeted to promote the growth of manufacturing entrepreneurs. This session focused predominately on industrial marketing-related services.
The forum is part of a collaboration of community colleges located in North Carolina, Kentucky, and Wisconsin, along with Central Virginia Community College, as a national initiative designed to develop and deliver programs to upgrade the skills of entrepreneurs operating home-grown advanced manufacturing and industrial automation firms.
