CVCC Receives $67,000 NSF Grant Intended as Seed to Nuclear Industry

 

Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/ -- CVCC has been awarded a sixty-seven thousand dollar grant by the National Science Foundation to pursue an additional grant for four million dollars. The proposal to be written and submitted will call for the construction of an international and national nuclear training site in Lynchburg.

 

CVCC Center for Workforce Development has made great strides in elevating the standards in education to provide nuclear facilities with qualified technicians and engineers. The $10.5 million AREVA Center was constructed on Campus to meet the growing demand within Region 2000 for high tech talent. The Center is a platform for education in support of the nuclear and electronic industries located in Virginia’s Region 2000.

 

This past December, CVCC received a $1.25 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to expand the degree programs in nuclear support technologies. More recently, the College partnered with the University of Virginia to provide a four-year education opportunity in engineering with all classes being conducted in Lynchburg.
