Amherst Resident Receives Outstanding Staff Award

 

Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/ -- CVCC presented Priscilla Liggon, Coordinator for Radiology Services, with the 2007 Outstanding Staff Award. Liggon graduated from CVCC’s Radiography Program in 1977 and has served the College since 1989. The announcement was made during fall convocation at the school’s Lynchburg campus by College President Dr. Darrel W. Staat.

 

Liggon oversees the entire clinical operation of the CVCC radiology program and coordinates all communications with clinical sites, instructors, and program directors. Beyond her normal duties, she assists in preparing interim accreditation report and feasibility studies that have led to the opening of a clinic in Halifax County and an Orthopedic Observation site in Lynchburg. She also coordinates student training in the area of digital x-ray imaging, and assists in planning and implementing the Radiography Program Honor’s Ceremony and celebrations occurring during Radiologic Technology Week.

 

Liggon attends numerous conferences, seminars and workshops on Radiology throughout the year. She serves as Student Liaison for the State Society of Radiologic Technologists and is a past Secretary of the Central Virginia District Society of Radiologic Technologists.

 

Liggon’s school activities go beyond her occupational responsibilities. She serves as an academic advisor to the to the CVCC Student Government Association and is a member of the CVCC Alliance for Excellence mentorship program. She established a mentorship program for radiography students leading to rising retention rates.

 

She involves her students in conducting radiography tours for interest high school students and school-age groups at all levels. Liggon also assists in coordinating middle-school radiography activities for the annual CVCC Summer Academies program. 

 

Her contributions to the community include serving on the Amherst County School Board and sitting on the Board of Directors for Altavista’s Area Health Education Center (AHEC). She also assumes a leadership role in the annual March of Dimes Walk and for periodic food drives.

 

Staat praised Liggon not merely for her involvement in the number of programs she is associated with, but for the extraordinary commitment and energy she puts forth to make them successful.

 

“Priscilla is truly outstanding,” says Staat. “She has earned the respect from all who are fortunate enough to have been acquainted with her. As a co-worker and friend, you can always count on her to do her best.”

 

With all of her occupational duties and civic involvement, Liggon still finds time for personal improvement. She is finishing her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Health Services at Old Dominion University, expecting to graduate in May 2008.
