Community College Association Honors Three from CVCC

 

Richmond, VA /Media Release/ -- Three CVCC employees were recognized for their work at the 25th Annual Virginia Community College Association Convention held at the Omni Hotel in Richmond, Virginia. Will Sandidge and Nick DeMartino were named Showcase Award winners and Ken Meyer was the recipient of an award for Excellence in Communications.

 

Will Sandidge received the Faculty Showcase Award for his work while serving as Dean of Business and Allied Health; a position he recently retired from after more than 17 years of service. Sandidge has been honored throughout this past year by a number of organizations for his initiatives on education in the field of healthcare including, most recently, the certification of the EMT Associate Degree program.

 

Nick DeMartino, CVCC Facilities Design and Construction Engineer, was selected for this year’s Staff Showcase Award. DeMartino has been with the College for 16 years heading the Department of Buildings and Grounds.

 

The Showcase Awards are presented annually to a faculty member and support staff for each of the 23 Virginia, two-year, member colleges of the Virginia Community College System. Recipients are nominated by a group of their peers based on their contributions to the school and the advancement of education.

 

Ken Meyer was awarded first place for writing by the Committee for Excellence in Communications. He was selected for his work, The Rise of Eduardo Alberto Peniche, a biographical sketch of CVCC Professor Emeritus Ed Peniche during his early years as a highly decorated veteran of World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Cold War. The article appeared in the CVCC Alumni Magazine Spring 2007 edition.
