CVCC Presents “Paris and Beyond” Art Exhibition
Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/ -- Central Virginia Community College’s continuing art series features photographs of Paris and surrounding regions on display throughout the month of January. “Paris and Beyond: Images of Paris, Versailles, Chartres, and the Loire Valley” can currently be viewed in Merritt Hall at the College’s main campus in Lynchburg during the school’s normal hours of operation. An artists’ reception will be held on Friday, January 11, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., open to the general public free of charge.
The exhibition features work by the group of faculty, students, and friends of the college who participated in CVCC’s study abroad tour of France in May, 2007. The work includes classic street photography, architectural studies, thoughtful images of worship in Chartres Cathedral, explorations of the elegance of art and architecture at Versailles, and views of the beautiful chateaus and countryside of the Loire Valley.
The participating artists include several well-known local photographers: Jill Markwood, CVCC staff photographer and instructional assistant in the Communication Design program; Sammy Allen, winner of numerous awards at Kaleidoscope; and Kathy Cudlin, CVCC curator whose photography has been exhibited in solo shows in the area. It also features very compelling images by members of the Art, English, and History faculties at CVCC, including Dr. David McGee who organized and led the tour.
