2008 CVCC Commencement Exercises
Lynchburg, Va. /Media Release/ -- Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) will conduct its fortieth commencement exercise honoring the Graduating Class of 2008. The program will take place at The Vine Center on the campus of Liberty University, May 8, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. CVCC President, Dr. Darrel W. Staat, will preside over the ceremonies.
CVCC will confer 339 associate degrees as well as 104 diplomas and certificates to students completing their studies in the 2007-2008 academic year. Graduates of Old Dominion University at Lynchburg will be recognized along with CVCC scholarship recipients accepted to Liberty University, Lynchburg College, and Randolph College.
Mr. Brian K. Walsh will be presented the Outstanding Alumnus Award for 2008 honoring him for his work in respiratory therapy. He currently serves as Clinical Research Coordinator for Respiratory Care at the Childrens Hospital Boston, the primary pediatric hospital of Harvard Medical School. Walsh has served on numerous Boards and committees over the past ten years and is a past-president of the Virginia Society for Respiratory Care. He was named 2003 Neonatal-Pediatric Specialty Practitioner of the Year by the American Society for Respiratory Care (AARC). Fulfilling the Colleges tradition, Walsh will give the commencement address following an introduction by CVCC Student Government Association President, Eric Miller.
Dr. Geoffrey Hicks, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Services, will give the preliminary introductions and designate honor graduate, Amber Parker, will deliver the student address.
CVCC will also introduce Ms. Brenda L. Terry, the 2008 Staff Emeritus, and Ms. Martha Goodman, the 2008 Faculty Emeritus. Dr. Staat will announce the recipient of the 2008 Faculty Award.
