Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/8/25 /08
On August 11, Central Virginia Community College held orientation for the first Dominion Nuclear training group to begin studies at the College. This marks the first time a company from outside the Central Virginia region has sponsored a training program at the CVCC main campus.
The students will earn Associate Degrees in Nuclear Support Technology. Dominion Nuclear will pay for their lodging in the area and provide the necessary funding for tuition, books and fees. The courses for the degree emphasize nuclear health physics and include nuclear operations and theory, as well as radiation detection, measurement, and protection. Students will also be required to complete a paid internship at one of Dominion’s nuclear power operations. Upon successful completion of the degree program and internship, the students will begin working for Dominion Nuclear at one of the company’s sites. These successful graduates will be working in “Rad Tech” jobs (radiation technology), with starting salaries of approximately $40,000 per year.
