Grainger Scholarship Encourages Training of Skilled Workers

Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/10/22/08 Representatives of W.W. Grainger, Inc., presented a Grainger Tools for Tomorrow Scholarship to CVCC industrial trade student, Jennifer Coleman, on Monday, October 20. Dave Midgley, district branch manager for the company, and Jacob Chandler, branch manager, awarded a $2000 scholarship to Coleman, who will also receive a tool package upon graduation to encourage her in her future career. The company awards 35 scholarships nationally.
Coleman, a Hurt, Virginia, resident who is studying Machine Technology at the College, has over a 3.6 point average and is described by her instructors as hard-working and dedicated. She is interested in a career in the nuclear industry, specifically in quality control. She has already been hired for a job with Babcock & Wilcox and says that the Grainger scholarship will play a very important part, financially, in helping her complete her CVCC training.
Midgley observed, Grainger is proud to partner with CVCC through our scholarship program. Together we can help to ensure that the Lynchburg community continues to be able to meet the demand for workers in the skilled and technical trades.
According to Darrel Staat, Virginias Region 2000 has a critical need for trained, skilled workers with an understanding of 21st century technology. With the increasing demand for these skilled individuals it is essential that we continue to invest in their talent, and Grainger is doing just that through this scholarship program.
