Steve Coates Exhibits Photographs of China at Merritt Hall

Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/1/14/09 Re-made in China an exhibition of photographs by Steve Coates will open on Friday, January 23, at the Merritt Hall Gallery of Central Virginia Community College. An opening reception will be held the same evening, from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m., and is free and open to the public.
Re-Made in China explores the world's oldest culture during a period of monumental growth and rediscovery as it struggles to balance the modern world of a rising empire with the spiritual world of its blurred past.
The exhibit reprises Coates August exhibition at the Academy of Fine Arts, but adds different pieces and includes some new color work, which is unusual for an artist known for his black and white images. All the photographs were captured on film, but were printed digitally, a production method that has also been a new direction for Coates.
