Grainger Awards Scholarships to Two CVCC Students

Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/12/11/09 – On December 10, Grainger, a local distributor of facilities maintenance supplies awarded two Grainger Tools for Tomorrow® scholarships to CVCC industrial technology students, Christopher Ramsey and Zach Jobe. Both students were awarded $2000 scholarships and upon graduation will receive customized Westward® tool kits to help them successfully launch their careers.
The Grainger Tools for Tomorrow scholarship program is designed to support second-year community college students studying technical trades such as electrical, welding, plumbing, construction, HVAC and automotive. Grainger launched the program in 2006 and this year expanded the program from 35 to 100 scholarships granted at 50 American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) member colleges.
Ramsey, who is finishing his Associate Degree in Welding Technology, graduated with honor grades from James Madison High School in Fairfax County and currently is a master stone mason. He plans to work as a mechanical welder after receiving his CVCC degree and hopes to go on to earn a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree. His instructors consider him highly skilled and dedicated.
Jobe, a graduate of Appomattox County High School where he was an honor student and played varsity baseball, is finishing his Machine Tool diploma at CVCC and will go on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Machine Technology. He has worked full-time in the summers doing heating, air, plumbing and electrical work and is considered a leader by his instructors, in both the classroom and lab.
