Artists Patricia Hayes and Henry Stindt
to Exhibit “A Decade of Travels in Central America”
Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/03/08/10—North Carolina artists Patricia Hayes and Henry Stindt will exhibit “A Decade of Travels in Central America” during the months of March and April in the Merritt Hall Gallery at Central Virginia Community College. The exhibition features work, primarily fine arts photography, that documents the collective experience of the two artists and serves as visual notes of their ten-year journal of travel throughout Central America. The timeline for the exhibition begins in 2000 and is a continuing project. There will be a reception for the artists on Friday evening, March 12, beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the public is invited.
Patricia Monnett Hayes is a studio artist and adjunct professor in the Art History Department of the East Carolina University School of Art & Design. During her many travels throughout Europe and Central America she became intrigued by the iconography of the Mother Goddess and her influence not only on women, but also on entire cultures. Through her artwork Patricia speaks of the connection with her rich and ancient heritage and travels in the physical sense but also through the spiritual journey that has taken her from known and recognized places to those unknown and yet undefined.
Henry Stindt is a commercial and fine art photographer in addition to being an adjunct professor of photography at East Carolina University. His work as a photographer and researcher has taken him to many remote regions of Central America and Mexico. Henry believes that the “stepping out of the safe and familiar” provides one with a fresh awareness. He credits his own participation in esoteric, spiritual rituals with providing him an opening to engage his artwork with a completely new sensibility. He says, “My ignorance of an indigenous culture’s Truth allows me the freedom to transcend my normal way of being. I am given an opportunity to discover and express a new Truth and Beauty which lives at the core of my imagery.”
The work will hang from March 12 until April 30, with an opening reception to be held on Friday, March 12, from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The gallery is open to the public during regular college hours.
