Amy Griffin Ray Named 2010 CVCC Outstanding Alumnus
Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/ -- Amy Griffin Ray has been named Central Virginia Community Colleges 2010 Outstanding Alumnus. She will be the keynote speaker at the May 13 graduation ceremony, held at the Vines Center.
Ray studied accounting at CVCC in 1981-1982, after graduating from Virginia Tech with a history degree. She joined Brown, Edwards, & Company in 1993, became a partner in 1994 and a regional executive with the company in 2002. She is a member of both the American and the Virginia Institute of Certified Public Accountants, has served on the state board for the Virginia Society, and was a past president of the local chapter.
She was elected Chair of the Board of the Greater Lynchburg Chamber of Commerce for 1996-1997 and was the 2000 recipient of the Dink Cloyd Award for service to the chamber. She is also a long-standing member of the Board of Directors of Centra Health and has recently completed a decade of service to the Greater Lynchburg Community Trust.
Her eight-year involvement at Central Virginia Community College has included her service as finance chair on the Board of Directors of the Central Virginia Community College Educational Foundation during the Colleges four-million-dollar Major Gifts Campaign for a World Class Workforce. In addition, she has been a board member and volunteer across the community, culminating with the Book of Golden Deeds award given to her by the Lynchburg Exchange Club in recognition of her community service.
Ray is a native of King George County in Virginia and is married to James C. Ray, her husband of thirty-two years and fishing buddy for nine.
