Tamela Crickenberger Joins CVCC’s Distance Education Center

Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/ -- Tamela Crickenberger has joined Central Virginia Community College’s Distance Education Center as the Instructional Designer and Blackboard Administrator. Crickenberger is a graduate of Liberty University and has an M.S. in Instructional Design from Capella University.

Prior to coming to CVCC, she worked for Piedmont Virginia Community College for three years as adjunct faculty. During that time, she also designed classes for workforce development and gained experience in instructional design. In 2008, she was received a Virginia Community College System (VCCS) Chancellor’s Award.

Crickenberger had spent the previous 15 years at the University of Virginia, where she had become the manager of billing operations in the surgery department, before deciding that teaching and technology were her true career goals.

“While face-to-face learning will never go away, distance learning will continue to grow and to become more and more sophisticated,” Crickenberger explained. “It’s definitely here to stay.”

She also has a special affinity for community college and understands the unique opportunity it offers to so many students.

In her free time, Crickenberger loves to read, especially British literature and the classics. She is also interested in the theater and has done some directing. She is married to Bobby Crickenberger, a realtor in Lynchburg, and the couple has a 13-year old daughter, Trinity.
