CVCC Art Exhibit to Feature Paintings by Lovie Peters
Lynchburg, VA /Media Release/3/10/11 Line, Colour, and Observation: A Method of Approach, an exhibition of paintings by local artist Lovie Peters, will open March 18 at the Merritt Hall Gallery of Central Virginia Community College. Her works include oils, watercolours and graphite pencils on paper and canvas. The show will hang from March 18 until May 6. An opening reception will be held on Friday, March 18, from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m.
Peters has been an Art Professor at CVCC since 2001, currently teaching Art History. She has a B.A. in Studio Art from Randolph-Macon Womans College and a Masters of Fine Art in Studio Art and Art History from the University of North Carolina. Peters also studied painting with Walter Barker, assistant to the famous German painter, Max Beckman, in America, and a recognized scholar on Beckman.
She has received numerous honors including Guest Speaker at the Oxford Round Table in Oxford, England (2006, 2007), an AIE Study Grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts (1989) and Recipient of the Diguid Fellowship for Intensive Artistic Study (1983-1984).
The works of Paul Cezanne, J.M.W. Turner and John Constable have long inspired my own contemporary landscape works. I use intense colour and elegant flowing line to describe the ancient forms of the Blue Ridge Mountains, recording the natural elements of the changing visual effects of light, air, atmosphere, and line upon the mountains. This endeavor continues to hold my fascination as a painter. My colour and line studies are both visual records and inner visions enhanced by my imagination.
