/Media Release/9/14/11 Local artist Linda Blacks
art exhibition is in progress at CVCCs Merritt Hall with an opening reception
on Friday, September 23rd from 5:30-8 pm. The reception is free and open
to the public. The show will continue until the end of October.
Linda Paris Black was born in Lynchburg and educated at Central Virginia
Community College and Lynchburg College. She earned her Master of Fine Arts
degree in photography from James Madison University. Since 1993 she has been an
adjunct lecturer in photography at Central Virginia Community College (CVCC).
Ms. Black works in a number of mediums including painting, drawing and printmaking as well as photography. Her work in photography has centered on a number of alternative processes including screen-printing, gum printing and, most recently, on digital ink-jet printing. She works with a variety of cameras, which begins a process of conversion of the photographic image into a number of more painterly effects, which transform the image without losing its original structure. The subjects of her current work are mostly common, organic and sometimes decaying fruits, vegetables and flowers that are altered in ways that evoke an essence and a poetical nature.
