GOAL 13
GOAL 13: The College will examine benchmarked institutions and practices to assess CVCC’s progress in accomplishing the relevant Goals and Objectives of this QEP.
The College realized early in the process of developing this Quality Enhancement Plan the importance of establishing benchmarks for certain practices, procedures, and policies at other institutions whose efforts at online instruction were deemed exemplary in some (or all) aspects (see Appendices B, C, and E). However, as is implied throughout this QEP, nothing is constant save change. The purpose of this goal is to monitor the changes that may occur among the benchmarked institutions to provide another perspective from which the College can view its own progress.
It may be, for example, that an institution deemed exemplary at the beginning of our efforts for its evaluation strategies will change its process(es). This Goal will provide the mechanism by which CVCC can look at all the benchmarks that lie behind its own project to see if they have changed, especially for the better. And if the benchmarks have improved, this Goal provides the ways CVCC can change accordingly. The reverse is also true. That is, should a previous benchmark turn out to be less than exemplary based on research, experience, or other factors, this Goal will also allow CVCC to make the appropriate adjustments.
Objective 1 – Years 3 and 5: Compare the changes made in the relevant policies and practices at CVCC with the original baseline benchmarks.
This objective will provide the first perspective from which the College can analyze its progress vis-à-vis the benchmarks established at the beginning of the QEP. Looking at the appropriate changes enacted at CVCC and comparing these to the original benchmarks will provide a set of criteria by which the effectiveness of the College’s progress might be gauged.
Objective 2 – Years 3 and 5: Re-examine those institutions originally benchmarked to re-establish a new CVCC baseline.
As explained immediately above, the College is aware that new information, greater experience, new data, and other factors may cause an institution to change its procedures or policy. The purpose of this objective is to see if, in fact, any of these kinds of changes have occurred at any of the institutions which comprised the original benchmarks for this QEP and, if so, allow the College to revise its own baseline as a way to measure progress towards achieving the goals and objectives outlined in the QEP.
Objective 3 – Years 3 and 5: Compare CVCC’s progress to those criteria indicated in the revised benchmarks.
This objective closes the loop between the practices and procedures at those institutions originally benchmarked by the College and the progress made at CVCC in comparison. As the previous objective will call for the establishment of a new baseline, a new set of criteria deemed exemplary, so this objective will call for the College to assess its progress in light of the newly established benchmarks.
