Policy on Substance Abuse
Central Virginia Community College is committed to protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens it serves by ensuring that a drug-free campus is maintained. In compliance with this commitment and consistent with the guidelines provided by the U. S. Department of Education and the Virginia State Council of Higher Education, the College has established the following substance abuse policy for students.
Drug and Alcohol Policy
The unlawful manufacture, possession, use or distribution of illicit drugs and controlled substances and the use or distribution of alcohol on College property or at off-campus course locations is strictly prohibited.
All incidents involving the suspicion of drug distribution or the recovery of suspected drugs, contraband, or paraphernalia should be immediately reported to the Campus Police Office. An individual finding the suspected item(s) should keep it in their possession until a police officer arrives.
Illegal involvement with drugs or alcohol on campus will result in disciplinary action by the College above and beyond any criminal penalties. The disciplinary action may include suspension or dismissal from the College.
Through the student orientation program and classes relating to this topic, CVCC provides a program of education to address concerns about the use and misuse of alcoholic beverages and controlled substances. During the year, other educational programs are available to increase student and college personnel awareness and knowledge about this subject.
