Job Seeking Assistance

Looking for work? CVCC's Workforce Solutions and Community Education department offers two offices that may be able to assist you!

1 If you are a CVCC student or alumnus (defined as anyone who has taken any credit or non—credit classes at CVCC), you are welcome at Career Connections, the CVCC career center! Contact the Center to:
  • review employment postings
  • schedule an appointment for assistance in assessing your career direction
  • get help developing or updating your resume
  • practice interviewing skills
  • visit with employers recruiting on site
  • participate in upcoming job fairs

In addition to providing individualized assistance, Career Connections offers seminars on a regular basis including:

Visit Career Connections on the CVCC Campus in Amherst Hall or call for seminar dates, additional assistance or to schedule a meeting with a counselor: 434—832—7620

2 Individuals living in Lynchburg City or the counties of Campbell, Amherst, Appomattox, or Bedford are welcomed at the Region 2000 Workforce Center. Located at The Plaza on Memorial Avenue, the Center may be able to assist you with:

  • Job referrals
  • Access to Vocational Training
  • Career Coaching
  • Job Success Workshops
  • Resume Writing
  • Interview Techniques
  • Referrals to social service organizations and other community assistance
  • Youth Career Readiness Programs and youth vocational services, literacy and numeracy training, work experience, job placement and other supportive services for youth that are high—school juniors through age 21
  • Work Keys testing and credentialing for Career Readiness Certification
  • On the Job Training
  • GED Classes and Testing
  • Access to information about unemployment insurance
  • Academic and Aptitude Testing
  • Job Search Assistance for youth, seniors 55 and over, adults and dislocated workers
  • Access to the Virginia Workforce Connection software for career planning and labor market information
  • Funding for eligible workers for education and training programs
  • Supportive Services such as Child Care and Transportation while in training if eligible

The Center offers a Job Success Work Readiness Workshop the 1st and 3rd Thursdays each month from 9:30am—12:30 pm. The seminar helps you:

  • Market yourself effectively
  • Overcome mental roadblocks to successful employment
  • Dress for success
  • Prepare for interviews
  • Compete in today's job market
