AREVA - CVCC Nuclear Maintenance Program
The first step in becoming part of this program is to gain employment with AREVA. They assign students to classes. Recruitment for this program is usually done 2 - 3 times each year at location/time advertised on the CVCC website and in the News and Advance.

The AREVA program classes are not open enrollment for the general public.

Earn an A.A.S. Degree in Nuclear Support Technologies

AREVA's Contract Employee Training Program allows you to earn a competitive salary while completing your degree and gaining hands-on work experience in a dynamic industry with the world's leading nuclear supplier!

AREVA, Inc., in partnership with Central Virginia Community College, is proud to announce a new work-study program where you can earn your technical degree in one of several focus areas, including:
  • Automated Systems
  • Repair Technology
  • Quality / Inspection


AREVA is a global company whose U.S. branch provides services, fuel, and engineering support to nuclear plants worldwide.

The Contract Employee Training Program is an innovative work-study program where individuals contract to AREVA for a fixed number of hours each year. They work and train with other technicians and engineers during a portion of the year, and attend traditional or compressed college classes during the remainder of the year.

The Contract Employee Training Program was designed to meet AREVA's need for a dedicated, highly skilled, seasonal workforce - while providing unparalleled educational and economic opportunities in Virginia's Region 2000.

Individuals accepted for the program become AREVA employees and enjoy year-round pay; health, dental and life insurance benefits; 401(k) and Pension Equity Plan participation; and numerous other benefits -- all while gaining valuable work experience and earning their degree. Employment and advancement opportunities extend well beyond the Contract Employee Training Program for motivated individuals.

Criteria For Acceptance
  • High School Graduate
  • AREVA NP Employment Interview
  • Background Investigation for Nuclear Site Access
  • CVCC Placement Testing
  • Willingness and Ability to Travel

AREVA Compensation

Compensation is based upon the number of hours contracted for the year. For the AREVA Contract Employee Training Program, 1800 total hours are typically contracted for the year:
Year Compensation
1st Year $24,000
2nd Year $28,000
3rd Year $32,000

Paid travel and living expenses and comprehensive benefits contribute substantially to the total compensation package. Opportunities exist to continue advancement through the contract program or through part-time or full-time employment.

AREVA offers training and work experience in a multitude of high tech disciplines including advanced robotics; non-destructive examination techniques such as eddy current and ultrasonic testing; welding; fiber optics; computer networking; reactor and steam plant maintenance and repair; and in numerous other related areas.

The training and experience gained through the AREVA Contract Employee Training Program, coupled with your A.A.S. Degree from CVCC, will prepare you for advanced educational opportunities and unlimited career growth in today's fast-paced high tech world!
