2008 Summer Apprenticeships at AREVA


Summer apprenticeships focus on Nuclear Services, with a broad overview of other operations at AREVA, including: The Nuclear Energy Industry - from mining to electrical power
  • Design Engineering
  • Fuel Manufacturing
  • Pump & Motor Service
  • Refurbishment Facilities
  • New Plants / Reactors
  • Site Operations
Apprentices work with and are trained and mentored by the AREVA Operations and Engineering staffs.  Apprentices will:
  • Learn NDE fundamentals
  • Operate robotics and tooling machines
  • Tour facilities and attend lectures
  • Assist in checkout of systems and software
  • Participate in engineering Design Review Boards
  • Take a leadership role in the AREVA Summer Academy

Applicant Requirements:

  • Must be a rising High School Junior, Senior, or Graduate
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from facilities
  • Must have letter(s) of recommendation on school letterhead from career/guidance counselor and/or science/math teacher

2008 Program Specifics:
  • AREVA Open House for candidates and parents planned for Tuesday, April 8 at 7:00 pm, 155 Mill Ridge Road
  • Contract period: Monday, June 16 through Friday, August 8 (excluding Monday, June 30 through Friday, July 4)
  • Tour of Energy Explorium at McGuire Nuclear Station, Thursday, June 26 (operated by Duke Energy), Charlotte, NC
  • Weekly schedule: 32 hours / week - Monday through Thursday (except final week which may be Tuesday through Friday)
  • Daily schedule: 7 am until noon; one hour lunch; 1 pm until 4 pm (possible 7:30 am until 4:30 pm)
  • Pay rate: $7.25 per hour
  • College credit: Four (4) credits through CVCC (IND 195: Work Based Learning)

2008 Application Process:

  • Interested parties should attend AREVA Open House Tuesday, April 8 at 7 pm, 155 Mill Ridge Road
  • Deadline to apply is Friday, May 9
  • Selections made and notifications mailed by Friday, May 30th

  • Cover letter containing:
    • Your name, address, phone number and the name of your school
    • Why you want to participate
    • What you hope to get out of the program
    • Why you are the “ideal” candidate
  • Resume or summary of experience containing information on
    • Work history
    • Education / honors
    • Volunteer activities
    • Extracurricular activities
    • Letter(s) of recommendation from your school counselors/advisors/teachers (must be on school letterhead)
