Apprenticeship Programs
Tech Prep students who are sixteen years of age or older may benefit from
participation in a registered apprenticeship program.
Student apprenticeship programs are operated by the Virginia Department
of Labor and Industry in cooperation with the high school districts and
CVCC. Virtually any occupational area may qualify for apprenticeship
training. Students who are interested in an apprenticeship opportunity
are carefully screened and registered with the Commonwealth of Virginia.
All clock hours that a student completes while a registered apprentice
count toward the hours required for a journeyman's certificate. Students
who participate in an apprenticeship program may earn credit towards a
high school diploma or an associate degree.
High school students interested in apprenticeship opportunities should
inquire at their guidance department for further information. Dr. Jim
Lemons is the college contact for this program, 434-832-7606,
