Where applicable, participating instructors of Business
Education/Business at the secondary and post-secondary levels will use the
competencies and task lists developed by the Virginia Department of
Education and posted on the Career and Technical Education Resource Center
web site http://www.cteresource.org
as the basis for instruction.
College credit will be awarded for courses completed at
the secondary level provided a student completed 90 percent of the
competencies listed on the Student Competency Record with a rating of 1 or
2. Three credit hours of college credit by previous completion will be
awarded for CVCC's Keyboarding I (AST 101) and/or three credit hours of
college credit by previous completion will be awarded for CVCC's
Editing/Proofreading Skills (AST 107) and/or three credit hours of college
credit by previous completion will be awarded for CVCC's Word Processing I
(AST 141) and/or three credit hours of college credit by previous completion
will be awarded for CVCC's Office Accounting (ACC 105) and/or Computer
Business Applications (BUS 226) for course work completed at the secondary
level as noted below.

A student who has completed prior training in keyboarding
(6152) or (6133) may enroll in AST 102 and obtain credit by previous
completion for AST 101 by maintaining a minimum grade of a "C" for AST 102.
A student who has completed one year of word processing
(6625) may enroll in BUS 226 and obtain credit by previous completion for
AST 141 by completing BUS 226 with a minimum grade of a "C". A student who
has completed a year of word processing (6625) and a year of Computer
Information Systems (6612/6613) will receive credit by previous completion
for both AST 141 and BUS 226.
Secondary instructors will use the Student Competency
Record developed by the Virginia Department of Education and posted on the
Career and Technical Education Resource Center web site for students who
expect to enroll in CVCC's Administrative Support Technology program.
Secondary instructors will ensure the articulated class competency records
become part of the student's official record.
To be eligible to receive college credit, a student must
have a "C" average or better for all Business Education/Business classes
and a GPA of 2.00 or better in all subjects taken at the secondary level.
The student must meet all admissions requirements and be
officially enrolled at CVCC to be eligible for credit via articulation.
The student must officially declare a degree or certificate
program with a CVCC counselor at the time of enrollment.
The Division Chair or his/her faculty designee will be
responsible for evaluating the official high school transcript and
competency profile record and recommending college credit to the Admissions
and Records Office at CVCC based on the stated conditions in the applicable
Articulation Agreement.
Enrollment at CVCC must occur within one year after
graduation from an area high school. If more than sixteen months have
elapsed since high school graduation, a student seeking college credit for
high school course work must obtain permission from the Division Chair or
his/her designee.
The competencies will be reviewed annually by a committee
of secondary and post secondary instructors for currency and completeness.
Recommended changes at the secondary level will be referred to the Career
and Technical Education Resource Center. Recommended changes at the post
secondary level will be referred to the appropriate CVCC Curriculum Advisory
Committee.
