3D Modeling
Geometric Design, Sculpture in Architecture & Product Redesign
This is a new competition this year for the Technology Fair. The emphasis of this competition will be to challenge students to be creative, inventive, and skillful in applying solid modeling techniques.
The competition will be open to all high school students who are currently using solid modeling software such as Inventor or AutoCAD.
General Rules:
1. All students currently enrolled in a drafting class are eligible to compete.
2. All entries must be an original creation by the student. (Not a copy of others work)
3. All entries must be saved on separate files and e-mail to CVCC. Students should retain a copy of the file.
4. The entry can be a single part or object or there can be multiple parts for each entry. There must be .015 space between interconnecting parts.
Categories of Competition:
Geometric Design:
This category encourages students to demonstrate creativity in using geometric solid shapes in combinations to form a sculpture. Examples: using spheres with cutouts exposing other solids inside; creating freeform shapes using extrusion or other modeling techniques.
Sculpture in Architecture:
This category is related to modeling objects relating to Architecture. Any subject is acceptable as long as it can be modeled. Examples: A detail of a column, contemporary furniture, a dome shaped structure or other shape, a cupola design, etc.
Product Design or Redesign:
This category is for a new product design or a redesign of an existing product. Students could design a simple part for a specific application or improve upon an existing product. Examples: A unique design of a case or a container for a knife or something, a medallion with the school logo, a concept product for production, a shifter knob, etc.
Judges will be looking for creative use of solid modeling software. The uniqueness of the design, quality of the model, and artistic expression are important things the judges will be looking for.
