Who We Are
The Tech Prep Region 2000 Educational Consortium consists of representatives
from Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell and Lynchburg School Districts,
Central Virginia Community College, area employers, local governments and
non-profit organizations.
Vision
Region 2000 Tech Prep Consortium will be a major change agent driving the
conceptualization, development and implementation of innovative improvements
in career-focused education.
Mission
The Region 2000 Tech Prep Consortium will provide students in the region with
educational opportunities organized around career pathways that lead to
rewarding careers.
Outcomes
As a result of this plan, there will be:
- an increased number of students enrolled in programs that support the identified career pathways; and
- an increase in the number of businesses actively involved in Tech Prep programs.
Major Objectives
- The Region 2000 Tech Prep consortium FY 07 management
plan will focus on increasing dual enrollment, increasing
business/industry partnerships and increasing the opportunities for
work-based learning;
- The Region 2000 Tech Prep Consortium FY 07 management
plan will focus on the career pathways for nuclear technology,
manufacturing, building trades, EMT and child care; and
- Increase business and industry involvement as measured
by the Business/Industry Partnership Index Metric.
Key Strategies
Articulation/Dual Enrollment
- Develop and/or strengthen dual enrollment opportunities related to the NSF nuclear support technologies project; and
- Develop and/or strengthen dual enrollment opportunities in programs related to other identified career paths, in particular the pathways for advanced manufacturing, EMT, building trades and child care.
Business/Industry Partnerships
- Use the identified career pathways as a way to map regional businesses and industries to CVCC programs and as a strategy to target increased partnerships;
- Actively involve business and industry in offering programs in the early high school years that emphasize the need for career and post-secondary education choices;
- Formalize a working partnership with the Region 2000 Technology Council to develop and grow a pipeline of technology workers; and
- Define the elements of a business/industry partnership, incorporate them into a measurement tool and use it to target increased collaboration.
Evaluation
- Continually refine and improve a set of metrics tied to outcomes.
Accountability
- Continually refine and improve a set of metrics tied to outcomes.
Curriculum Enhancement
- Seek out and offer professional development opportunities to high school and community college faculty to strengthen programs in the identified career pathways; and
- Utilize resources from national organizations to assess and improve career pathway programs.
Career Coaching
- Develop and offer summer career exploration opportunities related to identified career pathways;
- Offer programs in the early high school years that emphasize the need for career and post-secondary education choices;
- Develop and offer opportunities for regional guidance counselors, teachers and students to tour both CVCC and local industries; and
- Develop and implement a media promotional campaign designed to increase enrollments in career technical programs for identified career pathways.
Work-Based Learning
- Develop and grow a set of summer job experiences in collaboration with local businesses.
Transitional Services
- Develop and offer opportunities for regional guidance counselors, teachers and students to tour both CVCC and local industries.
Sustainability
- Use the identified career pathways as a way to map regional businesses and industries to CVCC programs and as a strategy to target increased partnerships;
- Define the elements of a business/industry partnership and use them to target increased collaboration; and
- Reduce administrative costs by incorporating Tech Prep program staff into the college’s workforce services staff.
