About the Brookneal Center
The CVCC Brookneal Center opened for fall classes in August
2002. The Brookneal Center is conveniently located in the lower
level of the Patrick Henry Memorial Library in downtown
Brookneal. The Center consists of a computer classroom, a
general classroom, an assessment center, administrative offices,
and a reception area with vending machines. The Center offers a broad spectrum of
day and evening programs in credit and non-credit modes and
specialized training in workforce development for business and
industry. Delivery systems include traditional classroom instruction
as well as Web-based/Internet courses, compressed video*,
computer assisted programs, and print-based courses.
Assessment services available
are COMPASS placement testing, Work Keys assessments, and career and
interest inventories. The complete COMPASS test can usually be done
on a “walk-in” basis during the hours of operation (allow at least
two and a half hours). Students should call the Center for
appropriate testing fees.
Open computer lab time is set aside for enrolled students when
classes are not in session. Tutoring services in most subjects
are available as needed.
* Compressed video classes are live, two-way televised
classes originating at CVCC and broadcast to off-site locations in
real time. These classes allow for interaction between the
instructor and students and can be offered with less than nine
students at each location.
