About Us

The purpose of the SVO is to ensure veterans, active duty personnel, reservists, and National Guard members are receiving all benefits to which they are entitled.  The SVO shall also increase awareness and understanding of veterans' issues on campus and advocate on behalf of student veterans.

12-10-12 VA Warning: "Veterans Affairs Services" Organization Not Affiliated to VA, Getting Vet IDs.  The Office of the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has requested dissemination of the following: An organization called Veterans Affairs Services (VAS) is providing benefit and general information on VA and gathering personal information on veterans.   This organization is not affiliated with VA in any way. VAS may be gaining access to military personnel through their close resemblance to the VA name and seal.  This group is not affiliated with or endorsed by VA to provide any services.

11-15-12 Are you getting social security, VA or other federal benefits by paper check? You are required by the US Department of the Treasury to switch to electronic payments by March 1, 2013.  The Treasury Department is phasing out paper check payments and requiring federal benefit recipients to get their money electronically. If you are already receiving your federal benefit payments electronically, this change will not affect you. http://godirect.org/

Military Veterans Tailgate 11:30-2:30 p.m., Hancock Welcome Center Front Lawn. Veterans are welcome to join the tailgate for free food prior to the game.

 Saturday, Nov. 10 Football Halftime Tribute to our Nation’s Heroes (Liberty vs. Stony Brook) 3:10 p.m., Pre-game festivities begin. At halftime, please join us for a grand celebration in honor of our nation’s heroes.

07-19-12 Fighting the Stigma about PTSD

Financed by the Pentagon and produced by the Institute of Medicine, a 400-page report published Friday recommended a broad range of PTSD-related initiatives. They include annual PTSD screenings for troops returning from combat, and a more coordinated approach to supporting those with PTSD between the Department of Defense and the Veterans Administration.

Lynchburg, VA- One center is giving back to veterans by offering free counseling for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.

05-24-12 Wyndhurst Counseling Center in Lynchburg is offering veterans free psychological assessment and alternative treatments. The center focuses on rebuilding four traits in veterans with PTSD: Hope, commitment, passion and accountability.
