2009 Summer APPRENTICESHIPs at AREVA
|

Summer
apprentices focus on Nuclear Services with a broad overview of other operations
at AREVA including:
- Design
Engineering
- Fuel
Manufacturing
Pump & Motor Service
- Refurbishment
Facilities
- New Plants /
Reactors
- Site Operations
Apprentices
work with and are trained
and
mentored by the AREVA Operations
and
Engineering staff. Apprentices will:
- Learn NDE
fundamentals
- Operate
robotics and tooling machines
- Tour facilities
and attend lectures
- Assist in
checkout of systems and software
- Participate in
engineering Design Review Boards
- Take
a leadership role in the AREVA Summer Academy
Applicant
Requirements:
- Must be a
rising High School Junior, Senior, or Graduate.
- Must have reliable
transportation to and from facilities for duration of each workday.
2009
Program Specifics:
- AREVA Open
House for candidate participants and parents Tuesday, April 7th at 7:00 p.m., 155 Mill Ridge
Road
- Contract
period: Monday, June 15th through Friday, August 7th (excluding Monday, June 29th
through Friday, July 3trd )
- Tour of Energy
Explorium at McGuire Nuclear Station (operated by Duke Energy), Charlotte,
NC – Date TBD
- Weekly
schedule: 32 hours / week - Monday through Thursday (except final week
which may be Monday through Friday)
- Daily schedule:
7 am until noon; one hour lunch; 1 pm until 4 pm (possible 7:30 am through
4:30 pm)
- Pay rate: $7.25
per hour
- College credit:
Six (6) credits through CVCC (IND 195: Work Based Learning) upon successful
completion of the program.

Application Process:
- Interested
parties should attend AREVA Open House Tuesday, April 7th at 7:00 p.m., 155 Mill Ridge
Road
- Application
must be completed and received no later than 4:00PM on Friday, May 8th
- Participant selections
made and notifications mailed by Friday,
May 29th

- Essay: (separate paper) maximum of 250 words
“What Opportunities the Nuclear Industry Has for My Future”.
- Self
Description: to include information
about yourself, why you want to participate in the program, what you hope
to get out of the program, and why you are the “ideal” candidate. (see
attached link)
- Academic
Reference: Letter(s) of Recommendation from career/guidance counselor
and/or math/science teachers.
Include at least one – please include reference signature. (see
attached link)
- Employment
Resume or Summary of Work Experience (if available)
